How did it happen?
You needed. You stopped. It came.
See the miracle.
Some people overlook the miracles that show up when God reaches out to help us when we don’t know how we’ll make it through a tough situation. If we’re paying attention, we’ll see how our Creator shows up in our work lives too. I’ve interviewed people in leadership positions that integrate their spiritual intelligence into their cognitive decision making processes. These are people who realized they don’t have all the answers. In those inevitable moments of leading when they hit a wall, they let go of trying to bulldoze their way to their goal. Like a wrestler pinned to the mat, they throw out their hands.
When we stop white-knuckling the steering wheel, when we recognize that our way, our thinking, and our plans are failing and that we’re continually coming up short, we make room for a divine partner to step into the space we humbly yield. I’ll share a quick and easy story of what it looks like to struggle, let go and see how the Holy Spirit can get your attention through meaningful, coincidental synchronicity incidents. It’s important to recognize them. You’ll realize you need them.
Late one evening one of the women I interviewed for my book called me hours after our conversation. She was so excited about a miraculous gift she received that day that she wanted to share it before going to bed. She was the Executive Director of a community center that was gaining new life after almost being forced to close. The seniors were planning an event and needed to use the elevator which was out of service. The building was over 100 years old, and to even get an estimate would have costed more than the budget allowed.
Driving to the Center one morning, she was overwhelmed by the weight of the situation. The seniors were constantly asking if she had figured things out yet. Their event was only a few days away. She had no idea how to make any headway. Then she noticed something while stopped at a traffic light. There was a church on the corner with a sign out front that gave her a different perspective and calmed her anxiety. The sign said to do all that you can, then leave the rest to God. She could feel her shoulders relax a bit after reading the sign.
When she arrived at the Center, two of the men that led the Center’s construction training program were out front speaking with a third man who had pulled up in a commercial truck. He was asking about the training program when she noticed his truck. He was an elevator repairman. She asked him about doing repairs for the Center. Unfortunately he was only trained to service newer elevators. Since the building was over 100 years old and had not had any recent updates it didn’t appear that he would be able to help. At her insistence he agreed to see if he could at least provide a diagnosis at no charge. A few minutes later he had completed the needed repairs.
The sign. A sign. A church. It was so simple that it’s cliché.
Had the sign been there before but she missed it because she had taken a different route? Or maybe she missed it before because she was in motion with the traffic around her and not paying attention to what was already there. We can move along with the activity of our lives and miss the meaningful, coincidental synchronicity of what can unfold or is unfolding on our behalf. Often it is in service to a greater good.
We are not alone in the good work. When you feel like you have nothing left to give, that’s a good time to let go. Simply stop. Maybe you will notice a simple synchronicity of a sign showing up. Or maybe you’ll see a series of synchronicity moments showing up. Those miracles are just for you.
On the day she had stopped, the time frame for repairing the elevator was getting tight and she had no resolution in sight. We don’t always voluntarily stop. Sometimes we are made to be still, whether it’s a personnel challenge or a project that will make or break your organization. Take a rest from trying to solve all the problems. You don’t have all the answers. And just so you don’t get anxious about thinking others are looking to you to solve every problem, feel free to let that go too. Everyone already knows you don’t know everything. Relax your shoulders. You don’t have to try to carry everything on your own. The Holy Spirit will show up for your good work. Don’t miss the message of your divine interconnection in the miracle.

One last little Christmas note for you. Don’t overlook the miracle of the Creator sending Jesus to us. We needed that, as well.
